GTA 6 Hype Just Broke the PS5 Pro Market
Rockstar confirmed earlier this year that GTA 6 runs best on PlayStation consoles. After the extended trailer on Netflix showcased footage captured largely on the PS5 Pro, demand for the console exploded overnight.
The game launches on November 19, 13 years after Grand Theft Auto 5. Sony has confirmed a dedicated "optimized" version for the PS5 Pro with enhanced graphics, though exact details are still under wraps.

The result is a total shortage worldwide:
- PS5 Pro is completely sold out across Australia, with no restock date announced
- US resellers on eBay are charging up to $1400 for a console with a retail price of $899.99
- The console is listed as "currently unavailable" even on Sony's official UK store
To play GTA 6 the way Rockstar showed it off, you now need to be ready to spend the price of a decent gaming PC.
Is This Normal?
Sony already hiked prices across the entire PS5 lineup last year. CEO Hiroki Totoki recently confirmed the PS5 is in the "latter half" of its life cycle, meaning the company no longer needs to aggressively push sales.
"We do not need to 'aggressively sell' the console today. Rather than that, we're focusing on recurring revenue from the recurrent userbase," said Totoki.
Meanwhile, the PS6 remains a mystery — despite rumors of a delay to 2029 due to chip shortages, Sony still hasn't locked in a release date.
